HARVEY FARM’S SHELTERBELT DRIP IRRIGATION SYSTEM
HARVEY FARM’S SHELTERBELT DRIP IRRIGATION SYSTEM
BACKGROUND
Craig and Gerri Harvey are the third generation to live on their family farm in Rosetown, Saskatchewan.
Their current shelterbelts (or windbreaks) were established in the ’40s and ’70s and were beginning to thin out. They started planting more in 2021 and are currently at 1200 new trees.
SHELTERBELT IRRIGATION CHALLENGES
The Harveys’ irrigation system was towing a water tank and trailer between the rows of trees and pumping the water out to some sprinklers, watering just four trees at a time. This method took a couple of days.
DRIP IRRIGATION: THE SHELTERBELT SOLUTION
“Southern Irrigation has made this a smooth and easy project. Minimal effort is now the new normal for watering shelterbelts.”
